Hi friends! It’s been a while and a lot has happened! Let’s see – we reached the three-year mark of being here in July, I went back to work full-time in September, and Matt’s parents came for a nice long visit in December. It was our first time seeing anyone from back home in three and a half years. It was an emotional reunion!
Oh – and something really crazy and unexpected happened in the midst of everything else we had going on. We bought a HOUSE! A really nice house, at that. And it’s in a great neighbourhood in a central location. In my previous post, I told you we would start saving so we could purchase land and build a house. Here’s the thing – we knew that it would take us years to accomplish this goal. We had just gotten debt-free and were basically starting from scratch with our savings account. So the fact that I even have a story to tell is all God. Per the usual, it’s a wild story – so hang on tight!
It all started in January of 2022 when we fasted with Legacy Church. We do this fast every year and it lasts for 14 days. Some people go all out and fast all food, but I can’t do that so I decided to cut out all sugar (if you know me well, you know how hard this is for me!). When I fast, I make a list of the things I’m fasting for. I fasted for quite a few things this time, and one of the items on my list was a house and land.
Fast forward to June. We’re almost halfway through the year and God has answered everything on my fasting list, in one way or another. Everything except for the house and land, that is. I figured it wasn’t the right timing yet and it would happen when it was supposed to. In the meantime, we started looking at bigger rentals in the area because we were quickly growing out of our current house.
Right around that time, our pastors invited me and Matt (along with a small group of others) to their house for dinner and to hear Pastor Bruce Monk speak. Ps. Bruce has the gift of prophecy, so we knew there would be a chance of getting a word that night, but we weren’t really sure what to expect. We showed up with the kids and looked forward to hearing Ps. Bruce’s message. Dinner was great and Ps. Bruce brought a great message. At the end of the night, he went around the room giving each person there a word. We were excited because it had been a while since we received our last prophetic word.
Ps. Bruce made his way around the room and finally, it was our turn. We were absolutely NOT prepared for what he was about to tell us. In fact – it’s so good I’m not going to paraphrase. Here’s the word we received that night; hear it for yourself:
That was oddly specific, right? We were blown away. And that’s how we knew it was God. We had no idea how soon we would get our house; all we knew is we had a promise from God and honestly, that’s all we needed at that point. We knew God would work out the details.
After receiving that promise from God, I deleted all the rental searches I had subscribed to. I knew I wouldn’t need them. I did subscribe to some land searches, as that was our original plan. But I wasn’t sure if that was God’s plan, so I prayed into it a little. After a while and once the excitement wore off, life went back to normal and I quickly fell back into my usual routine. I honestly started losing sight of the house the longer we went without a lead. Looking back, there wasn’t much time at all between the word we received and seeing our house for the first time.
We received the prophetic word on 4th Jun 2022. On 29th Jul (roughly two months after the word) I was feeding Ruth at around 3:00am. This was our norm, and usually I would just dream feed her (we both would sleep while she breastfed). This particular night, I was feeling rested so I decided to scroll on Facebook; something I don’t usually allow myself to do because it’s too disrupting to my sleep. But I broke the rules and picked up my phone. When I opened the app, marketplace had a notification so I clicked on it. I started mindlessly scrolling through the listings until I came upon the listing for the house. I stopped scrolling and my jaw dropped. I couldn’t pinpoint it, but I wasn’t just looking at a listing. I was looking at OUR HOUSE. I have no other way to describe it. It’s like God was showing me that this is what He had for us.
