God Did It Again!

This post is about two months delayed. I’ve been waiting for the right time to post it, and now feels like that time. To preface, this post is NOT about “look at what I have!”. Instead, this post is about how big our God is, and look at what He has done. Don’t look at me – look at Him!

God quite literally blessed our socks off, again. He did it when we moved to New Zealand. He did it with this house. And now, He has fulfilled yet another promise to us: a brand new car, paid in full.

Oh. My. Goodness. I’ll give a brief synopsis of this story because there are so many crazy details involved in the telling of it. The timeline goes a bit like this:

  • We fasted with our church a little over two years ago, and as part of that fast, we asked God for a car. Ours had many issues, and our family was quickly outgrowing it. We hadn’t had Louis yet, but he was on the horizon. We were driving a 2008, so ideally, we were after a 2012 or newer (we never asked for brand new, nor expected it!) We brought this request to the Lord because we simply couldn’t afford it.
  • Over a year ago, God confirmed that He would not only give us a car, but we wouldn’t go into any debt acquiring it. At this, we figured we would find one for really cheap.
  • In September, God used a TikTok video to tell us to go test-drive the car we want because He’s fixing to just give it to us. We jumped at the opportunity and test-drove cars the next day. At this point, we knew God wanted us to visit the Toyota dealership first (that’s a whole other story). I struggled with what price range to test drive. Matt & I discussed keeping it under the $30K range, but the Lord quickly convicted me that I was boxing Him in. He reminded me of this verse, so we decided to throw the budget out the window and let God move:

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭11‬

  • The very first car we test drove was our own car, and we had no idea yet. After test-driving many cars, we narrowed down our selection and did round two of test drives the following weekend. In the end, we chose the Toyota Highlander.
  • We called the dealership to let them know we had chosen the Toyota Highlander. God was moving us to take a bold leap of faith, so we signed an Offer to Purchase, which put our order in for the car. The salesman asked if we wanted to make a Staleholder Payment of $2,000, which would put us in line to get a car with the exact specifications we ordered if ours was still in production and another became available (if someone else were to forfeit their order). We said yes in faith, knowing we had about $30 to our name, and three hours later, $2,000 was deposited into our account (again, another story on its own). We made the Stakeholder Payment.
  • We got a call shortly after placing our order that the colours we chose for the interior and exterior (Celestial Blue and Sandstone, respectively) were no longer options, so we needed to choose new colours. We chose Deep Sea Blue and Black. The salesman encouraged me to visit the dealership to see the colour in person, so I did. When I got there, they brought me to the demo car we test-drove. Somehow, I missed what colour it was when I test-drove it not once, but twice! It was the exact colours we ordered.
  • We waited and waited, with no word on our order. Christmas comes and goes. Fast forward to January, God did it again! We were shocked (but not surprised) at how suddenly it happened. The money we needed to purchase our new car (and exceedingly above it to cover homeschooling costs, which we also couldn’t afford) was deposited into our bank account (yet again – a whole other crazy story!)
  • We followed up with Toyota, only to find out that the car we ordered would be delayed to mid-March because of port strikes in the US. Our car had been assembled at the end of December but was waiting to be shipped. We felt a release from God to ask for the demo, so we did, and a few days later, Toyota released it to us.
  • We paid for our car in full and drove away in our brand new Toyota Highlander. God was being so literal when He told us to test drive the car we want, because He’s fixing to give it to us. That’s exactly what He did!

I still pinch myself that it’s even ours! God blew our minds. He is so faithful to fulfil His promises. One thing I’ve learned about God is that He will only be as big in your life as you let Him be. And if you truly have childlike faith, He will do exceedingly and abundantly more than you can ask, think, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

This is only the beginning. Believe it or not, the car provision is just a fraction of what we’re believing God for next. God has made some big promises to us, and we are fully surrendered to Him, waiting for His perfect timing to embark on the next season of our lives. Right now, that journey is private (just as this one was). But when the time is right, I’ll share that testimony with you, too.

In the meantime, whatever you’re believing God for, believe bigger! There is just one caveat: Put God and His kingdom first in your life, which is easier said than done. This journey hasn’t been easy – in fact, far from it. But it’s been so rewarding. There have been so many uncertainties along the way, but that’s when we have no choice but to put our full trust in God, knowing He sees the full picture and has all the pieces of the puzzle. One thing is certain: No matter what God blesses us with, our only goal is to remain fully in His will.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
